Post Helene Inspection of Huguenot Cross Site at Purrysburg

This morning the Society took a drive down to Hardeeville, SC to inspect the condition of the granite marker.

Hurricane Helene has left a path of destruction that is hard to believe and it passed over both the Purrysburg and New Bordeaux cross sites. Thankfully, Purrysburg was spared any damage to the marker and there are just two trees that are uprooted and must be removed.

Mr. John Horlbeck, a member of the Society’s Board, and Ms. Elizabeth Gay, the Society’s Executive Director, conducted the inspection today. Following the inspection, Mr. Horlbeck began the work of securing the services of a local tree surgeon to manage the safe removal of the uprooted trees. The work should be completed within the next two weeks.

The Society is unable to report on the New Bordeaux cross site as the road to the marker is impassable at this time. As soon as information is available, we will publish an update to this post.

We continue to keep our members who have been impacted by Helene in our prayers and we hope to hear from as many as we can in the coming days.
